ERA5 data October 2023 850K

Good morning.

It appears that however I download ‘reanalysis-era5-complete’ for ‘levtype’ : “pt”, at ‘levelist’ : “850”, the wind data retrieved for October 2023 is not chronologically ordered (despite the preceding months being order chronologically).

Is this an error - are the dates correct, just output in an unusual order for some reason?

Thanks for any help .

Hi, Can you share the request you used to retrieve the data please?
Kevin

Thanks. Sure.

Eg.
import cdsapi
c = cdsapi.Client()
c.retrieve(‘reanalysis-era5-complete’, {
‘stream’ : “oper”,
‘levtype’ : “pt”, #ml for model level
‘levelist’ : “850” , #else 450/600
‘param’ : “54.128/131/132”,
‘step’ : “0”,
‘grid’ : “0.25/0.25”,
“area” : “0/0/-90/360”, #area: N/W/S/E
‘time’ : [
‘00:00’, ‘01:00’, ‘02:00’,
‘03:00’, ‘04:00’, ‘05:00’,
‘06:00’, ‘07:00’, ‘08:00’,
‘09:00’, ‘10:00’, ‘11:00’,
‘12:00’, ‘13:00’, ‘14:00’,
‘15:00’, ‘16:00’, ‘17:00’,
‘18:00’, ‘19:00’, ‘20:00’,
‘21:00’, ‘22:00’, ‘23:00’,
],
‘date’ : “2023-08-01/to/2023-10-31”,
‘type’ : “an”,
‘class’ : “ea”,
‘expver’ : “1”,
‘format’ : “netcdf”,
}, ‘output.nc’)

Thanks; i did some tests and the timestamps are indeed not in order for this month.
One thing you could do is try using the CDO ‘sorttimestamp’ command to reorder the data, e.g.
cdo sorttimestamp input_file.nc output_file.nc

Hope that helps,
Kevin
