We are pleased to announce today the publication of an **improved version of the Randolph Glacier Inventory v7.0 (RGI v7.0)**, which is a world inventory of curated glacier outlines. It is directly accessible from the Climate Data Store (CDS) through the following catalogue entry:

> **[Glaciers distribution data from the Randolph Glacier Inventory for year 2000](https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/datasets/insitu-glaciers-extent?tab=overview)**
>
> This dataset, commonly known as the Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI), provides global glacier outlines compiled from maps, aerial photographs and satellite images. The dataset is a snapshot (one outline per glacier) constructed from source data that...

In this version there are two main novelties:

1. Added two new spatial resolutions (0.5° and 0.1°), complementing the existing 1° resolution.
2. All three resolutions are provided in raster format, complementing the vector (shapefile) format of the inventory.

[Documentation](https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/datasets/insitu-glaciers-extent?tab=documentation) has been updated accordingly.

Users can download the data via the CDS web interface using the [download form](https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/datasets/insitu-glaciers-extent?tab=download) or programmatically using the [CDS API](https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/how-to-api).
