Hi Liz,
CDS-Beta uses a new grib to netcdf converter; this page describes some of the differences (including the move to netCDF4):

> [@Changes to grib to netCDF converter on CDS-Beta/ADS-Beta](https://prod.ecmwf-forum-prod.compute.cci2.ecmwf.int/t/changes-to-grib-to-netcdf-converter-on-cds-beta-ads-beta/4322/18):
>
> Hi everyone, an informative page about the new GRIB to netCDF converter used on the new CDS and ADS systems is available here: [GRIB to netCDF conversion on CDS-Beta and ADS-Beta - Copernicus Knowledge Base - ECMWF Confluence Wiki](https://confluence.ecmwf.int/x/uhDeGg) Thanks ECMWF Support

Hope that helps
Kevin
