# New Data Store added to the family of data stores managed by ECMWF

We are pleased to announce that the new [Cross Data store](https://xds.ecmwf.int/) (XDS) has been published on 26 February 2025.

**In the ECMWF cross data store , users can find selection of public datasets managed by ECMWF and developed under research projects.**

The XDS is powered by ECMWF Data Store Service (ECMWF-DSS) technology. It shares the same authentication system of all the other data stores ([CDS](https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/), [ADS](https://ads.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/) and [EWDS](https://ewds.climate.copernicus.eu/)). However there are important differences.

The XDS is **not** an operational service and does **not** benefit from the support services that characterise other datastore. **ECMWF does not guarantee** full service support for these datasets which are developed in research and development projects.

These datasets are made available to the scientific community for research purposes as they are, with no commitment from ECMWF to their ongoing maintenance.

the XDS is unavailable for weeks now, can you share with us an update?

Dear Matteo and potential XDS users,

Unfortunately, the opening of the XDS has been postponed to a later date due to the decision to prioritise the release of another datastore over the cross datastore. At this time, we don’t have a timeline for when this might happen.

On behalf of ECMWF, please accept my apologies for the confusion and inconvenience this situation has caused. Please continue to monitor the forum, as any updates regarding the reopening of the XDS will be communicated here.

Thank you for the update. Luckily, I had already downloaded the dataset I needed. Looking forward to the new release!
