Abount dndza (mean refractivity gradient) units

Hello,
I downloaded some data from ERA5, including the mean vertical gradient of refractivity inside trapping layer (Parameter Database), however I don’t understand the range that values take.

First, all the days (from the 2020-2024 range) have some value, not only the ones with trapping layer. -1 is the most repeated value, and it thought that it could be atributed to days without trapping layer. But if the units are N/m, or M/m, I would expect the lower, more negative values corresponding to more prevalent ductiong situations. And it seems to be the contrary, that in days were ducting was prevalent, the series has more positive values.

So I am confused about the units used here. I understand it being m**-1, since it is the vertical gradient of an adimensional value, but i don’t get which index is being used.

Thanks for the attention,

Marc
