AIFS Single Data

This week, the test data for the new operational version of AIFS Single was released to the public.

When I downloaded this data, I found that it was a Gaussian grid, whereas the current version of AIFS is in a lat-lon grid, which is more ideal. My question is: is there any plan to make AIFS Single data available in lat-lon grids?

Hi,
Thanks for raising this!
We’ve implemented a change this morning and all future data will be in lat/long grid.
Kind regards,
Emma

Hello
I think it would be useful for comparison between IAS and IFS forecasts to have point-based products such as ENS Meteograms generated with AIFS data.
Would this be possible at this time?

I just added AIFS Single to Open-Meteo! You can compare data for individual points here: 🌦️ Docs | Open-Meteo.com

So far, AIFS Single looks similar to the previous AIFS version but aligns a bit better with other weather models. Even solar shortwave radiation performs well, which is usually tricky to forecast. Of course, it’s still somewhat limited due to the 6-hourly steps.
