CDS API - variance in queue time - weekday vs. weekends

We are experiencing a huge variance in queue times. What used to take seconds to minutes is still taking seconds to minutes on weekends. Yet hours on weekdays. In other words, we have CDS API requests that used to take seconds to be processed; now they can be in the queue for 2-3 hours.

Is this due to load on the CDS? Or could there be simultaneous requests from within our organization? Is there a recommended way to debug/look into this.
