CMIP6 data now available from the Climate Data Store (CDS)

We are pleased to inform you that a quality-controlled subset of the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) data is now available from the Climate Data Store (CDS)

A set of 46 core variables from more than 40 models from the CMIP6 archive were identified for the CDS in this first batch. The present set is the first snapshot of the dataset and significantly more data will be added in the next phase in May. These variables and models are provided from 9 of the most popular CMIP6 ScenarioMIP experiments.

The CDS subset of CMIP6 data has been through an additional  quality control procedure, therefore it may be for example, that similar data can be found in the main CMIP6 ESGF archive however those data come with very limited quality assurance and may have metadata errors or omissions.

Important ingredients of this new CDS catalogue entry are the compute processes behind the downlooad form, which allows vertical, geographic and temporal subsetting of the data. This feature can prevent users to download excessive amount of unnecessary data from the CDS.

CMIP6 data may be downloaded over the CDS web interface using the CMIP6 Download Form or programmatically using the CDS API service.

Extensive CMIP6 documentation is also available. We have also published an article on the C3S Website: Latest projections of future climate now available.
