Download fails: Requested data is on one or more damaged tape

I have trouble downloading potential temperature coordinate data for some months in 1987, 1988, and 1989. The error is

AccessError: Requested data is on one or more damaged tape: J0981400. For more information, visit MARS data unavailability in ECMWF tape library - User Documentation - ECMWF Confluence Wiki [marser-ecmwf]

All errors reference the same volume number, so it looks to me like there is one damaged tape.

I have looked at the web page given in the error message, but it does not provide much useful information and was last updated in November 2023. Is there any possibility that the data will become available at some point or should I treat it as permanently lost? Is there any way to find out when the data might be recovered?

Thanks, Ken Bowman

Hi,
if the damage tape is listed as in the picture means that the relevant team is working to make the tape available again. Unfortunately, there is no timeline for how long could take.

As soon as the tape will be back online (nothing will be listed for that tape anymore), you will be able to resume your data download requests.

Thanks
