Download limitation plan on current CDS

In a bid to encourage users to move over to using CDS-Beta ahead of the shutdown of the Climate Data Store (CDS) in September 2024, the Data Stores team has planned to gradually reduce access to selected datasets (both web form and API service) on CDS from this week onwards starting with:

Satellite Observations datasets

Download from additional datasets will be disrupted in the following weeks. Affected datasets will be announced in this topic as soon as confirmed.

Warnings are posted on affected dataset catalogue entries in the Climate Data Store (CDS).

Reanalysis datasets (e.g. ERA5, ERA5-Land, ORAS5, CARRA, CERRA, UERRA) and Seasonal forecast datasets will remain open and available from current CDS until CDS is shutdown in September 2024. However, to encourage users to move over to CDS-Beta, download limitations on CDS will progressively be incremented while download performance on CDS-Beta will be improved .

Please refer to our informative page for guidelines on moving over to download the data from CDS-Beta.

Should you encounter any difficulties migrating to CDS-Beta, do get in touch with ECMWF Support by raising a ticket on our Support Portal.

As of today 26th September 2024, legacy CDS has been decommissioned and is no longer accessible. All API requests attempting to retrieve data from the legacy system will systematically fail. No further support will be provided on the legacy system.
