Hi,
I work on the Google Earth Engine team.
An Earth Engine user pointed out that ERA5-Land hourly’s surface_solar_radiation_downwards values for UTC 22:00 on 2019-08-01 do not have the typical day/night value distribution.
I confirmed this by fetching this:
c.retrieve(
‘reanalysis-era5-land’,
{
‘variable’: ‘surface_solar_radiation_downwards’,
‘year’: ‘2019’,
‘month’: ‘08’,
‘day’: ‘01’,
‘time’: ‘22:00’,
‘area’: [
60, -80, -20, 20, # North, West, South, East (approximate Atlantic region)
],
‘format’: ‘netcdf’,
},
‘era5_land_surface_solar_radiation_downwards_20190801_2200.nc’
)
The map is below - as you can see, there’s no day/night division.
The user noted the same problem occurs for a few other dates. This does not happen for ERA5 Global.
Best,
Simon
