ERA5 vs ERA5-Land Temp differences

Hi,

I’m comparing ERA5 vs ERA5-Land T2m temperatures and finding some (a lot) of significant differences,

In many cases as much as 5 deg K

Is there an explanation for such significant differences, I was expecting some but not to this extent.

e.g., at Lat 47, Lon 1.0 on 2024-12-27 16:00

I’m being chased by others about this issue, and I have no explanation to give.

How do I go about getting an answer? Do I need to raise a support ticket?

I found differences of =/- 5 deg Kelvin for points in France some time ago for T2m, I am surprised given both ERA5 and ERA5 Land have a common data source and wondered what might cause this.

Hi Mark,

I was about to submit a similar question regarding the differences between ERA5 and ERA5-Land 2-meter temperatures. I am also seeing differences over 1°C in country-level daily averages after zonal statistics. Did you receive any response about this issue?

No response from ECMWF on the subject.

I’m regularly asked questions about it, but have no answer to give. I’m not sure how to go about getting an answer from ECMWF - a support ticket doesn’t seem right but what else to do?
