How to open a GRIB file?

Hello, I am very new to this. I have just downloaded single value ERA5 precipitation data for a full year in a specific location. I am not sure what to do with the GRIB file. Tried to download a couple of the suggested software (e.g. Panoply) but did not work. Any step by step instruction would be extremely helpful.
