I am curious about the absence of the ak/bk (hybrid) coefficients in the ERA5 model level downloads in NetCDF format. It’s noteworthy that these coefficients are included in the GRIB format, which is sufficient to reconstruct pressure data. Is there a specific reason why the coefficients are not included in NetCDF downloads?
We rely on automated processes when working with this data. Therefore, hardcoding the model level coefficients might require ongoing manual maintenance in the future. Also I’d like to point out that the NetCDF CF conventions supports the inclusion of these coefficients.
