As part of improving Data Stores users experience, a new version of the default cdsapi package on Data Stores was released yesterday, 30 September 2025: version 0.7.7.
All cdsapi users are strongly recommended to upgrade their cdsapi package to this latest version 0.7.7.
In addition to this latest cdsapi version release, we are delighted to announce that a new separate API package —ecmwf-datastores-client— is now also available, with advanced features: metadata retrieval, synchronous or asynchronous job submission, REST API. Further details including links to API Documentation and Jupyter Notebooks Tutorials are available from the API pages on each of the Data Stores (e.g. New API package for advanced users section on CDS, ADS and EWDS).
Please be aware that ecmwf-datastores-client, part of the ECMWF earthkit.data package, is Incubating and subject to ECMWF’s guidelines on Software Maturity. This means that the new API package is mostly feature-complete and the interface is mostly stable. If this software is to be used in operational systems you are strongly advised to use a released tag in your system configuration, and you should be willing to accept incoming changes and bug fixes that require adaptations on your part.
cdsapi users are not requested to migrate to using the new ecmwf-datastores-client API package at this time and may continue to use the existing cdsapi package until further notice.
