New datasets published in the CDS: Climate extreme indices and heat stress indicators derived from CMIP6 global climate projections

,

We are pleased to announce that a new dataset has been published in the Climate Data Store (CDS):

Climate extreme indices and heat stress indicators derived from CMIP6 global climate projections

The dataset provides climate extreme indices related to temperature and precipitation as defined by the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI), as well as selected heat stress indicators (HSI). The indices are provided for historical and future climate projections (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, SSP5-8.5) included in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) and used in the 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

This dataset may now be downloaded from the Climate Data Store either interactively using the CDS web interface ("Download data") or programmatically using the CDS API service. The dataset is also CDS Toolbox compatible.

For any enquiries regarding this dataset, please contact us.

ECMWF Support

Hi, I saw a notice that this dataset is ‘no longer supported’ by C3S – what does that mean exactly? That it’s not going to be updated or maintained, or that C3S is disavowing it? It’s just a bit unclear. At NCAR, we’ve recreated the indices for the CESM2 model (ScenarioMIP, CMIP6) which was not part of this dataset, but we’d still like to associate it with this resource, which was the inspiration. Thanks! Andy

Hi Andy,
Perhaps this post will help clarifying the notice: Downscaled bioclimatic indicators "no longer supported" –what now? - #2 by Xiaobo_Yang

Thanks, that’s perfect. I hope that if the dataset is ever to be removed from the CDS, that a notification will go out. I’ve stored a substantial amount of it on our NCAR storage, but without a public interface. It’s possible we could make it available for longer if it ever goes away at CDS (together with our CESM2 results).
