We are pleased to announce that the ECMWF reanalysis team have their paper describing the preliminary extension to ERA5 back to 1950 ('the ERA5 back extension') published in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. The paper describes details of the production as well as the scientific evaluation of ERA5 during the period 1950-2020:
