Dear everyone,

Is there a way to know which experimental data are used for assimilation in ERA5 at a specific location and time period ?

In the ERA5 documentation (ERA5: data documentation - Copernicus Knowledge Base - ECMWF Confluence Wiki), there is a list of datasets but not the coordinates and measurement period of each device.

It seems that this question is not easy. I believe that for many studies, it is important to have a good understanding of the assimilation process in a specific region. Here are some additional questions related to this issue:

  • Is it possible to know the value of the “assimilation forcing term” in the momentum equation applied within a specific cell ?
  • Who at the ECMWF could be contacted to answer these questions ?
