SON Period evaluation completed: full period-aggregated results & open data release

Dear all,

The first forecasting period of the ECMWF AI Weather Quest (September–November 2025) concluded earlier this autumn, and we are pleased to share that its evaluation is now complete, with full period-aggregated results available on the Leaderboards page. Overall engagement was very strong, with a total of 166 competitors, 35 teams, and 60 models participating across the SON period.

All SON-period forecast data is now publicly available for independent verification, reproducibility, and exploratory analysis: AI Weather Quest Data Portal. Team-specific datasets are also accessible directly from each team’s page.

Teams have shared concise methodology descriptions outlining model architectures, input data, and training or ensemble strategies. These are available on each team’s page: Teams • AI Weather Quest.
