When I download a dataset consisting of multiple files (hundreds or thousands, for example ERA5 monthly files), I tend to check if the file has already been downloaded to have the possibility to restart the download after a network issue.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know the target file format. For example with AgERA5, the documentation says that the file are in NetCDF but you actually you will download zip files.
In your opinion, what is the best way to deal with this? Is there any way to avoid guessing the file format?
