Data licensing change for some OpenIFS Data Hub products

Hi Data Hub users,

The OpenIFS Data Hub makes use of Copernicus data products for some of the data it generates (e.g. experiment data based on ERA5 reanalyses).

We would like to notify our users about a forthcoming change in the data licensing. The data licence for Copernicus products will change to a Create Commons Attribution Licence CC-BY-4.0. This change will take effect on 02 July 2025.

On that day the OpenIFS Data Hub licence document will be updated accordingly for Copernicus data products. Please note that for the operational (IFS non-valid) data source there will be no change of the licence text.

If you continue to use the OpenIFS Data Hub after this date then this will be considered as your acceptance of this licensing change.

Please see also this related forum post:

Please contact ECMWF Support with any questions about this.

Hello,
Is there a way to accept the CC-BY license through the API? Any flag to pass the API maybe?
Thank you

Hello @Jim_Bungener,

When you use the OpenIFS Data Hub then you do not need to explicitly accept the licence agreements. It is implied that when you request data products from the Hub that you will abide by the Terms & Conditions (Access conditions) which include the licence agreements (basically, the access conditions are the licence agreement, only that they are limited to the data sources that are used by the Hub)
These are outlined here: ECMWF | OpenIFS Data Hub Access Conditions

At the bottom of the data request form (in the Hub) there is notice that when you submit your request you implicitly confirm that you agree to follow the access conditions.

Perhaps this makes it a bit clearer?

Regards,

Marcus
