We are pleased to announce that the new version (v2.0) of the Agrometeorological indicators from 1979 to present derived from reanalysis (AgERA5) dataset has been published on the Climate Data Store (CDS) on -05-2025.
The new version of the dataset as mentioned in the previous announcement addresses a number of issues and product requests after a user consultation. These include new data layers:
- Penman-Monteith refererence evapotranspiration.
- Derived daily min/max humidity.
- Vapour pressure deficit at daily maximum temperature.
- Fraction of the day with precipitation > 0.1 mm.
Moreover, it solves some technical issues such as:
- Erroneous temperature values due to integer overflows during processing
- An improved land/sea mask which handles the existence of small islands or irregular coastlines in a better way
- Improved metadata in the NetCDF files which it will make easier for users to understand the contents of the data and use the data with off-the-shelf GIS packages.
User requirements that could not be accommodated within the current dataset will be used in designing a future AgERA6 product.
The new v2.0 dataset will help users in agriculture (but also other domains) with accurate and long term weather information which is crucial in interpreting and understanding current weather conditions and their impact on crop and livestock productivity. Thereby enhancing decision making for farmers, traders and organizations that have a mandate in monitoring food security.
