Do you have any information about when the Land Cover classification gridded maps are going to be updated for 2023 and 2024?
Land cover classification gridded maps from 1992 to present derived from satellite observations
In the documentation it is written that the datasets are published yearly with a one year delay.
Temporal coverage 1992 to present with one year delay
Thanks
Dear Joao,
The Land Cover classification maps are normally released on an annual basis with a one-year delay, as described in the documentation. However, due to a contractual transition between project phases, the release schedule has been temporarily delayed.
The upcoming release timeline is as follows:
- LC maps for 2023 and 2024: scheduled for release in end of March 2026
- LC map for 2025: expected by end of end of February 2027
- LC map for 2026: expected by end of February 2028
Kind regards,
Hi, Any timeline updates available?
Dear John,
Thanks for your message.
We have recently updated the release plan. The land cover maps for 2023, 2024 and 2025 will now be released together to ECMWF in June this year.
The subsequent timeline for review and public release will depend on the standard review process.
This represents a slight delay of around 3 months for the 2023–2024 products compared to the previous schedule but it also brings the 2025 product forward by approximately eight months.
The aim is to move towards a more timely, near-real-time release cycle.
We will share further updates as the release progresses.
Kind regards,
Celine
Hi Celine,
does that mean the data are ready (or.. just in review)? Will the data be served from a new location at ECMWF?
Thanks,
Mat.
